Physician recruitment going well in the Stratford area

A lot of work and a very competitive environment.

That’s what the Chief Executive Officer of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance calls the physician and medical specialist recruitment process that has been producing good news for the Stratford area.

Andrew Williams says eight physicians were recruited in 2017-2018 to come to the area with four in Stratford-Tavistock, two in Clinton, one in Seaforth and one in St.Marys.

Williams says that, according to a registry of people who say they are without a family physician run by the province, there are around 500 people in the Stratford area without one but he adds help is on the way with a new family physician starting in September.

“This individual will take on a new patient population and we’re hoping that those individuals in the community without a family doctor will be able to secure this individual’s services.”

Williams adds it’s a challenge to compete with the rest of the country to attract physicians but he adds that we live in a great area which is a big advantage.
