Ninth Annual Stratford Garbage Can Decorating Competition set to launch Thursday

It’s an annual tradition in Stratford and it’s back for another year.

The 9th Annual Stratford Garbage Can Decorating Competition is set to be officially launched Thursday at 11 a.m. at Festival Marketplace Shopping Centre.

Incorporated as a Green Week feature event in Stratford, with Green Week running from April 22nd to 28th, the competition is co-sponsored by the City of Stratford, Stratford’s volunteer Communities-In-Bloom, Civic Beautification, and Environmental Awareness Committees, Festival Marketplace and Stratford Community Living.

The GCDC Committee has partnered with the City of Stratford’s Parks Board to provide 25 of its 50-gallon garbage drums to be decorated by local schools and businesses wishing to take part.

The drums will be distributed in Queen’s Park and along Lakeside Drive and will be on display during the summer through to fall with each drum following the theme of “Embracing Diversity.”

The deadline for all submissions is April 23rd at 9 p.m. with the judging of all entries on April 24th and the awards presentation on April 26th at Festival Marketplace.
