Stratford’s Swan Parade goes back to its roots

What’s old is new again for next month’s Stratford Swan Parade.  This year Stratford Tourism is not hosting events, and instead, is encouraging other people to host events.

Taking over the reins will once again be the Civic Beautification and Environmental Awareness Committee.

MJ Thomson who is chair of the Swan Committee says Stratford Tourism did a fantastic job attracting more people to the parade and the larger event, “This year on Sunday, April 7th, when the swan release happens, it’s going back to its roots.  It will be just a swan parade. We will be having the Stratford Police and Drum band will begin there warm up at 1:45 and they will be giving some them some song as they make their trek from their winter quarters into the river.”

Thomson says Stratford Tourism did a great job attracting people to the city but the simplicity of the event is what makes it special, “I think the chaos of the last few years has been incredible in terms of bringing more awareness and people to the event, but it is very stressful for the birds.  I think moving back to this particular format is wonderful because the birds will be far less stressed and the trek won’t be quite as long.”

Parking will be available at the William Allman Arena, the Stratford Festival parking lot (Lakeside Drive and Queen Street) and along Lakeside Drive east of Front Street.  To keep the kids occupied Festival Marketplace will once again sponsor a colouring page.
