A concerned citizen is being credited with stopping a shoplifter at Walmart.
Yesterday afternoon Stratford Police were called to a disturbance at Walmart. Staff had tried to stop a 28-year old from Waterloo who was seen leaving the store without paying.
The man started yelling at staff and that’s when the concerned citizen stepped in to help. The citizen got the suspect under control and was able to hold him until the police got there. Police found 74 Thomas the Tank Engine Mini-Trains and a controlled substance on the man.
All the toys were returned to the store and the man was arrested and charged with Assault, Theft under $5,000, Possession of Stolen Property, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
He has a court date in mid-April.
The SPS does not encourage citizens to get physically involved with a suspect but is thanking the individual for stepping in.
No one was hurt in this situation.
