While our region saw a higher unemployment rate last month, it’s not all bad news.
According to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region rose by 1.3 percentage points to 6.9 percent in March.
Employment decreased by 3,900 in the region with full-time losses partially offset by part-time gains.
They say the greatest losses were in healthcare and social assistance and wholesale and retail trade.
However, they note that the unemployment rate may be viewed as good news by employers as the recently released EmployerOne Report highlights the challenges that employers face in finding workers to fill positions locally.
On a good note, they say Ballinran Entertainment has announced it’s transforming the former Samsonite office on Ontario Street in Stratford to a collaborative workspace for professionals.
