Local secondary school teacher’s federation speaking out against Ford government’s plans for education

The local secondary school teacher’s federation is sounding the alarm over the way the Ontario government is dealing with education.

OSSTF District 8 says earlier this week sixty-nine secondary school teachers with the Avon Maitland District School Board received redundancy letters, meaning they will no longer have jobs at the end of the current school year.

That represents 17 percent of names on the secondary teacher’s seniority list.

OSSTF District 8 says that “the Ford government’s education cuts are a significant factor to the job losses.”

The OSSTF says once the full Ford government’s plan for education is in place it could lead to ballooning class sizes and fewer choices for students.

According to the local federation meetings scheduled with Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece and Ontario Education Minister Lisa Thompson were canceled.
