School’s out after today

It’s the last day of school for students across the province.

You’re going to be seeing a lot more kids running, playing and biking through your neighbourhood after today.

Inspector Sam Theocharis with the Stratford Police Service says road safety isn’t just the responsibility of motorists.

He says road safety is everyone’s responsibility and not just the drivers.

He reminds you to stay off the sidewalks downtown if you’re on a bike.

Police will be stepping up traffic enforcement through the summer months.

Inspector Theocharis says they have already started.

Police will also conduct ‘Operation Freeze’ where they will give coupons for free drinks at Mac’s convenience stores if they catch kids doing a good deed or being responsible like wearing a bike helmet.

Inspector Theocharis says it’s part of their bigger strategy to correct behaviour through education rather than punishment.

Motorists are reminded to be vigilant while behind the wheel this summer and be on the lookout for children.
