UPDATE: 4:52 P.M.

An elderly woman is dead after a collision between a car and a freight train near Ingersoll.

The collision took place Tuesday morning when Perth County OPP say a small sedan being driven north on 31st Line, between Road 74 and Road 68, collided with a Canadian Pacific freight train that was heading west to London from the Woodstock area.

Police say a 92-year-old woman was the only occupant in the sedan and she was killed in the collision.

Perth County OPP Media Relations Officer Barry Cookson says investigators will look at factors like how the fast the train was travelling as they try to determine what caused the collision.

“They will try and do a download of the vehicle to determine the speed of the vehicle at the time as well as whether such items like a brake pedal were applied prior to the collision.”

Cookson adds that the woman’s name has not been released while next of kin are notified.
