Driver charged after Stratford Transit bus strikes building in downtown core

Police say two people are recovering from minor injuries after a Stratford Transit bus struck a building in the city.

Stratford Police Constable Darren Fischer tells MyStratfordNow.com that police were called out to the corner of Erie Street and St.Patrick Street just after 7 o’clock Wednesday morning after a transit bus struck the corner of a building.

He says an investigation has determined that a pickup truck was travelling northbound on Erie Street and went through a red light at the intersection as the bus was travelling westbound on St.Patrick Street.

The truck collided with the bus, according to Fischer, and caused the bus to veer to the right, go off the road and over a fire hydrant before hitting the building.

The driver of the bus and a passenger on the bus and were brought to the Stratford General Hospital for treatment and later released while the pickup driver wasn’t hurt.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck has been charged with failing to stop at a red light.

A portion of Erie Street was closed due to the ongoing investigation and while repairs were made but it reopened just before noon.
