Woodstock Police issue reminder over email scam

Woodstock Police are reminding you about a scam making the rounds.

They say a scam email is threatening that a video containing explicit content of the victim will be made public if they don’t pay a fee immediately.

Police say victims are receiving emails from scammers citing a password that they are currently using or previously used as proof that they have hacked their computer while they were visiting an adult website and, as a result, access to the webcam was made and all proceedings were recorded.

Reports to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre suggests that no actual video exists and the passwords being cited have been obtained from previous data breaches.

Police are reminding you not to open the message or click links with it and to delete the message.

They say you should also change your passwords every few months and make your passwords long and hard to identify.
