North Perth certified as Living Wage Employer

North Perth is ahead of the pack when it comes to offering a living wage.

The municipality is the second in Ontario to be certified as a Living Wage Employer with a living wage a calculation based on the living expenses of a family of four with both adults working 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account.

The living wage in Perth County is $17.44 an hour with the number calculated annually by the Social Research and Planning Council.

United Way Perth-Huron Executive Director Ryan Erb says North Perth is a leader when it comes to its employees.

“It demonstrates strong leadership, it demonstrates that they are very concerned about the employees that they have and also of the community that they foresee.

Over 13 thousand residents live in North Perth.
