Husband of fatal collision victim thanks the community

The staff of  MyStratfordNow.com, 107.7 2day FM & 107.1 Juice FM extend our deepest condolences to Evelyn Harris’ family and friends.

Evelyn’s husband Bob published this letter to the 107.1 Juice FM Facebook page.  We have reached out to Bob through the Stratford Police Service and he has given us permission to publish his letter here.

PUBLIC LETTER
FIRST, I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR COMFORT, HELP, AND WELL WISHES. IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, THE STRATFORD POLICE AND THE VICTIMS SERVICES UNIT, THE DOCTORS AND NURSES AT THE STRATFORD HOSPITAL, WITNESS’ , THE CARE PARTNER NURSE WHO HAPPENED TO BE AT THE SCENE, MY CHILDREN, MY INLAWS, MINE AND MY WIFE’S FRIENDS AND EVERYONE WHO TOOK AN INTEREST IN THIS.
I SUPPOSE THERE IS SOME PUBLIC INTEREST IN HOW I FEEL. WELL AFTER I LEFT THE HOSPITAL AND HAD SOME TIME ALONE, I ALMOST FELT ASHAMED THAT ANGER WAS NOT SOMETHING I EXPERIENCED. MY KIDS (THEY’RE ACTUALLY OLDER THAN THE DRIVER) WERE AND I COULD NOT BLAME THEM. THIS PERSON ACTED ON NATURAL HUMAN INSTICTS. SHE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. SELF PRESERVATION IS BASIC TO US ALL. REMEMBER THE COOKIE YOU TOLD YOUR MOM YOU DIDN’T EAT. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS WE WERE BOTH DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE LOSS OF LIFE, ALBEIT FROM 2 DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. BUT BOTH OF US WERE AFFECTED BY THE SAME PERSON. HOW THE DRIVER DEALS WITH THEIR SITUATION WILL AFFECT THEM MORE THAN ME.

NOTE TO THE MEDIA AND THE POLICE: I HAVE BEEN ASKED IF I WANTED TO COMMENT A FEW TIMES BY THE NEWS OUTLETS THROUGH THE POLICE AND THEY (THE POLICE) HAVE RESPECTED MY PRIVACY. THE TRUTH IS I JUST RECENTLY HAD A CANCER OPERATION ON MY FACE AND SOME QUICK JUGDGERS MIGHT THINK SOMEBODY BEAT ME UP. I AM STILL VERY EMOTIONAL AND IT GOES AGAINST MY GANGSTA’ SELF IMAGE (NOT SHARED BY ANYONE ELSE BUT ME) TO BE SEEN BLUBBERING ALL OVER THE PLACE.
