Decision on what to do with Ontario Place land to come Tuesday; Beer getting closer to full privatization in Ontario

No casino going into Ontario Place 

The provincial government is folding on plans for a Casino at Ontario Place. The official announcement to scrap the idea for a gambling facility is expected Tuesday. Residents and municipal partners didn’t want a Casino to move in. Other suggestions include sports, entertainment or retail venues.

Philpott and Wilson-Raybould turn down Green Party leadership

Federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May said she’s disappointed that neither Jody Wilson-Raybould or Jane Philpott decided to join her party. May was even offering leadership, a position she’s held for over a decade. May says she believes they made a mistake by turning down the opportunity. Both will run independently in October.

Beer Store could take provincial government to court over cancelled contract

The Ontario government plans on cancelling the 10 year deal with the Beer store early. The province’s finance minister threw shade at the company, saying it’s a monopoly and that it cares more about profits than providing convenience and choice to customers. The Beer Store plans on taking the government to court over the decision.
