“Topping off” ceremony held at new Tom Patterson Theatre

The new Tom Patterson Theatre in Stratford is getting closer to opening its doors.

On Wednesday, the Stratford Festival held a topping off ceremony which was celebrated by lifting a beam signed by festival supporters into place.

The new Tom Patterson Theatre replaces the old one with increased seating capacity which officials say will extend the venue’s theatre season.

The Ontario and Federal governments are each investing $20 million in the theatre as they say its part of supporting infrastructure investments to help build the new facility.

Officials say the extended season will draw an additional 52,000 patrons to Stratford each year, creating more than 200 new jobs and economic activity of $14.5 million annually.

The project broke ground in March 2018 and is expected to open in the spring of 2020.
