Stratford crossing guard selected as one of Canada’s favourite

One of Canada’s favourite crossing guards is from right here in Stratford.

Three crossing guards who go above and beyond the call of duty were chosen by Parachute, along with FedEx Express Canada, as the winners of Canada’s Favourite Crossing Guard Contest.

The winners include Stratford’s Linda Daum who patrols near Shakespeare Public School.

Daum’s description in the winner’s announcement says for extra safety, she carries a stop sign that lights up and flashes to guide her students.

It adds that she greets everyone with a huge smile and gives out treats on special occasions, including a cooler with ice-cold treats on the last day of school.

The winners were nominated by their communities and awards will be presented over the next few weeks.
