9-1-1 misdials taking up police time

Misdials continue to tax the OPP.

In Wellington County alone, police were dispatched to over 2500 smart phone accidental ‘pocket-dialed’ or 9-1-1 misdial calls.

This resulted in over 1800 hours of wasted police work.

Police predict this will only increase as more and more local residents switch to smart phones.

The OPP is urging you to be vigilant.

If you realize that you have misdialed, don’t hang up, rather stay on the line and speak with the operator and provide more details

Use a proper smart phone holster, rather than a pocket or purse and use the lock mode on your smart phone when it’s not in use.

Make sure you talk to young children so they understand when it’s appropriate to dial 9-1-1.
