Stratford man charged after police say he tried to steal vehicle

Stratford Police say a 27-year-old man faces several charges after he tried to steal a vehicle.

Just before 4:30 Sunday morning, police say they were contacted by a resident on Robertson Drive in Stratford after a man had tried to steal the resident’s vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

Police say damage was found to have been caused to the vehicle and several items were missing from inside of it.

A description of the suspect was obtained by police and they say they eventually located him hiding in a backyard close-by.

He was identified as a 27-year-old from Stratford and he was arrested and charged with several offences including Mischief under $5 thousand, Trespass by Night and Resist Arrest.

Police say he was brought to their headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
