Federal and provincial governments teaming up for funding boost for chicken farmers

Chicken farmers in our area are getting a helping hand from the federal and provincial governments to the tune of over $350 thousand.

Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece says the investment of $350, 748 that will go towards building capacity for chicken, poultry and egg farmers is “great news not only for the over 250 family-run chicken farms in Perth-Wellington but for chicken, poultry, egg farmers across Ontario.”

The cost-sharing funding was committed to the Chicken Farmers of Ontario, working alongside the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chicken Commission, and the Association of Ontario Chicken Processors.

Officials say that under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the project will deliver a third-party service with the goal to ensure chickens are handled in a humane way during emergency situations.
