Search for handgun suspected to have been used in armed robbery turns up nothing

The search for a handgun in the Avon River has turned up nothing.

On Saturday night two people were held up as they walked near the river in Stratford.

It is believed the suspects threw the black handgun into the river before being found and arrested by the Stratford Police. The Underwater Search and Rescue team looked for the weapon yesterday (Monday) but did not find it.

The two teenage boys, a 17-year old from Toronto and a 15-year old from Stratford are suspected of holding up two people, robbing them of their cell phone and wallet at gunpoint.

The pair of teens had a bail hearing on Monday but they were held in custody. Their next court appearance is on Friday.
