Netflix series to be shot in Stratford

Parts of downtown Stratford will soon be transformed into a movie set.

Warner Brothers will be in town transforming stores along Wellington Street and Market Place into 1910 Harlem beginning Tuesday, September 3.  The production company will be in town to film parts of the Netflix series Madam C.J. Walker.

The series is based around the life of Sarah Breedlove, known as Madam C.J. Walker, who was an American entrepreneur who invented a line of hair care products for black women.  She was the wealthiest self-made woman in the United States at the time of her death in 1919.

Stratford’s own Olivia Croft will appear in one episode of the series.

Filming will be done on Monday, September 9.  The series will be released on Netflix in the U.S. in 2020.

That will require the following temporary road closures, from 8 pm on Sunday, September 8 until midnight on Monday, September 9:

  • Wellington Street from Downie Street to St. Patrick Street
    • Market Place from Downie Street to Wellington Street

The Downie Street parking lot and the Lower Erie parking lot will also be unavailable Monday, September 9.

Those lots will be closed Sunday, September 8 at midnight and motorists are asked to move their vehicles by 11 pm Sunday night.
