One man faces an arm’s length of charges after Stratford Police say he assaulted an officer.

Around 5:30 Sunday afternoon, police say they got a call from a resident who said that a man had thrown a knife at him as he was walking behind a business in the west end of the city.

The man wasn’t hit by the weapon and police came to the scene and found the suspect who was holding the knife.

He placed it on the ground after several requests to do so from officers and when they tried to arrest him, police say he pulled away, climbed onto a picnic table, and hit one of the officers over the head with a laptop computer.

The officer wasn’t hurt and the man was brought under control and arrested.

After the arrest, officers found a variety of home electronics and a wallet belonging to a resident of a home that backed onto the area where the suspect was found.

Police say the man went into the home while the victim was napping and had stolen all of the found property.

The man faces a number of charges including Assault with a weapon and assaulting police, he was held in custody and has a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
