‘Save VIA’ starts second petition

There’s now a second online petition to restore passenger rail service.

The local Save VIA group has posted it on MoveOn.org and they’re hoping to surpass the success of the first one.

St Marys businessman Chris West says the first petition was more generic about train service in the country.

This one is a very specific call to action.

The petition calls for stable long term funding for VIA and a clear mandate for the crown corporation.

West says the mandate should encompass health care, education, commerce and the environment.

He says local residents are making a difference.

West says the ‘Save VIA’ group isn’t about to back down or slow down any time soon.

West says they’re hoping to get 5000 signatures.
