Police: Officers use taser during arrest of Stratford man

Stratford Police say they had to taser a man during an arrest in the city.

Around 10:30 Monday night, police were called to a convenience store in downtown Stratford where they say a male had caused a disturbance, stolen a bag of chips and assaulted an employee.

Officers went to the store and found the man, who they say was known to them after he didn’t attend a scheduled court appearance earlier in the day.

Police say the man resisted arrest and attempted to flee with officers using a taser to take him into custody.

He was brought to Stratford Police Headquarters where police say he caused further mischief within the cell area.

The 37-year-old from Stratford faces several charges including Assault, Resist Arrest, Breach Probation and Theft Under $5000.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing Tuesday.
