Class back in session around Perth County following one-day strike

It’s business as usual again at high schools around Perth County.

Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation walked off the job on Wednesday, triggering school closures around the area, as they continue to negotiate with the province on a new deal.

Locally, the teacher bargaining unit president at OSSTF District 8 says union members saw “warm and positive support from the community” during the job action.

Shane Restall says he feels most parents are on the side of the teachers in the dispute.

“I don’t think anyone believes that bigger classes are better for students and through their support we’re able to help defend public education.”

Education Minister Stephen Lecce called the one-day strike unacceptable and urged the union to take part in private mediation
