Police dog credited with helping track down wanted man

Stratford Police are crediting their police service dog for tracking down a wanted man.

Around 1 o’clock Tuesday morning, an officer on patrol near Forman Avenue and Cawston Street recognized a 29-year-old man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The man didn’t show up for a scheduled court appearance in early December on several charges including Obstructing a Peace Officer and he took off on foot when the officer approached him.

The service’s police service dog Jack and his handler were called to the scene and they tracked the man over seven kilometres to a field close to Sebringville, north of Perth Line 32.

When he was arrested he was showing signs of hypothermia and he was brought to the Stratford General Hospital.

He was also charged with Breach of Probation and Obstructing a Peace Officer for this incident as well.
