Heavy damage caused in fire at food recycling facility near Milverton

A large fire at a food recycling facility outside Milverton has left extensive damage in its wake.

Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall tells My Stratford Now dot com that firefighters were called to the facility on Road 130, southwest of Perth Road 119, Tuesday afternoon and once on scene they found an active structure fire with smoke showing from all openings.

He says crews went to work trying to save the building but heavy damage was already caused to some areas including the north half of the outside of the structure.

Marshall says, fortunately, no one was hurt in the blaze.

“There were no injuries, we were thrilled to see everybody outside at their meeting place and they had the power shut off and they had the propane shut off which made for a safer working environment for us.”

Marshall adds the fire is still active and he expects crews will be on scene throughout the night with the investigation into just how much damage was caused and what sparked the blaze continuing tomorrow.

The road is closed in the area while crews are on scene.
