UPDATE: 14-year-old Huron East female killed in snowmobile collision

UPDATE: 3:29 P.M. Tuesday

Police have identified the person killed in a snowmobile collision as a 14-year-old female from Huron East.

The collision happened around 8:45 Monday night on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail section near the hamlet of Ethel and involved two snowmobiles.

Huron County OPP says the two snowmobile drivers were travelling together on a marked trail when the lead operator attempted to cross over a drainage ditch.

They misjudged the location of the marked crossover and went into a steep ditch.

At that point, the rear operator followed off the marked trail and into the steep ditch where a collision happened between the two snowmobiles.

The first driver was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead while the second driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and was later released from the hospital.

Police say the deceased has been identified as Taylor Long.
