Ontario declares state of emergency over COVID-19

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared a state of emergency in the province effective Tuesday morning

All facilities providing indoor activities, public libraries, daycare centres and entertainment providers are to close.

All restaurants will be limited to delivery or take out, and all gatherings of more than 50 people are banned.

The premier is calling for businesses to work together to support workers affected by the outbreak, introducing the first stage of a $300-million COVID-19 relief package.

Ford says this is not a provincial shut down and the majority of businesses won’t be affected by the order.

Essential services such as grocery stores will continue to operate.
