OFA issues statement over COVID-19

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture is urging the federal government to take “great care and deliberation” when making decisions.
The OFA says recent news that the arrival of temporary foreign workers and seasonal agricultural workers will be significantly disrupted or stopped will have a devastating impact on the productivity of the entire food system.
The move is being made as Ottawa deals with the COVID-19 crisis.
The OFA says If the workforce is not available to their industry, Canadians will have limited access to fresh produce in the peak growing season as farm businesses deal with the loss of valued team members who are skilled, trained and trusted farm employees.
They say agriculture and agri-food stakeholders are ready and available to come to the table to work with federal and Ontario governments to quickly develop and coordinate a plan for the arrival of foreign workers.
