Border between Canada and United States to temporarily close to non-essential travel

UPDATE: 1:52 P.M. Wednesday

The Deputy Prime Minister says there has been no decision when the border will close.

Chrystia Freeland says despite that, a clear decision has been made and asks Canadians to respect it and not try to get across for non-essential reasons starting now.

Freeland says the government is working with Border Services to determine the “precise time” it will close.

Freeland also reassured that trade and goods as well as essential workers will continue to be allowed across.

The land border between Canada and the U.S will temporarily close.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he and U.S. President Trump agreed to restrict all non-essential travel from the two countries.

No time line for the move was given.

Trudeau says the border will stay open to trucks and essential service workers to ensure the supply chain of food and medical supplies remains flowing between the two countries.
