HPPH reports first COVID-19 related death in region

Huron Perth Public Health says a man in his sixties has died from COVID-19.

HPPH says in a release that the man had tested positive for the virus earlier this month and is the areas first COVID-19 fatality.

He was hospitalized at the Stratford General Hospital and health unit staff say they began their investigation immediately upon being notified of the man’s diagnosis and have communicated with his close contacts.

The man was from St.Marys and was the area’s first confirmed case.

All personal contacts have been in self-isolation since and continue to be monitored.

HPPH says they received lab confirmation of seven new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the confirmed number of positive cases to nine in Huron and Perth.

Among the new cases are the first confirmed positive case in a long-term care home in Perth County at Hillside Manor near Sebringville.

Contact tracing for those cases is currently underway.
