Ministers respond to Russian pork sanctions

Jeff Leal and Michael Chan are taking the Russian sanctions in stride.

The province’s ministers of agriculture and trade say the ban on Canadian pork by Vladimir Putin’s regime is disappointing.

However, both men say hog producers are resilient and Russia buys a small portion of Ontario’s agri-food exports.

The province sold $18 million worth of pork products to Russia last year.

The sanctions are retaliation for sanctions Ottawa imposed on Russia in relation to the ongoing tensions in Ukraine.
