New management appointed at a Kitchener long-term care home struggling with COVID-19

New management has been appointed at a Kitchener long-term care home as it deals with COVID-19.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care has issued a Mandatory Management Order appointing St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener to temporarily manage Forest Heights Revera long-term care home for 90 days.

Officials say the order may be extended beyond the 90 days, if necessary,

Despite receiving hospital support for weeks, officials say Forest Heights has been unable to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Since April 1, the home has seen 174 positive COVID-19 cases in residents, 68 cases in staff members, and 50 deaths.
