Man charged with assaulting an OPP officer in Mitchell

A Stratford man is facing charges of assaulting a police officer.

The 24-year old man was seen by an OPP officer on St. David Street in Mitchell violating a condition of his bail.  He was arrested and taken back to the detachment in Sebringville.  While he was being fingerprinted police say he assaulted the officer.

The man now faces three charges including failure to comply with an undertaking, failure to comply a release order and assault a peace officer.

He was held for a bail hearing.

The officer was taken to hospital as a precaution and released.
