HAPPENING NOW: Burn ban in effect in Perth County

The dry weather has lead to all open-air fires being prohibited anywhere in Perth County, including in Stratford and St.Marys.

Fire officials say open-air fires are defined as any fire outside of a building and include bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, or any other fires set in open air.

Recreational campfires are still allowed in Stratford and St Marys.

Campfires for the purpose of cooking are permitted in West Perth, Perth East, and Perth South from noon to midnight only and after midnight, all fires must be completely extinguished.

A total burn ban is in place for North Perth where no fires of any kind are permitted.

All burn permits in these municipalities are now suspended. No burn permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice and if you discover an open-air fire, you’re asked to report it immediately to 9-1-1.
