Monuments damaged in incident at Avondale Cemetery now reset or repaired

All of the monuments that were damaged at the Avondale Cemetery in Stratford have now been reset or repaired.

Around 75 monuments were damaged on July 3rd after Stratford Police say they were called about a naked male in the cemetery causing a disturbance and knocking over gravestones.

The 60-year-old male, who police say is known to suffer from mental health problems, was arrested and charged with  Mischief Over $5000, Nudity – In a Public Place, and Obstruct Peace Officer.

Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson tweeted a “big” thank you to Stratford Memorials on Friday for donating their staff time to fix & straighten the damaged monuments in the cemetery.

He says it was “incredibly generous” and the city, along with the families of the community who’s monuments were vandalized say thanks!
