Huron Perth MOH says many lessons learned over seniors and COVID-19

The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth says there have been many lessons learned when it comes to seniors and COVID-19.

During a live information session on Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Miriam Klassen was asked about how we can make sure seniors facilities and long-term care homes are better prepared if there is a second wave of the virus.

Klassen says we can look to what we learned in our country about personal protective equipment, screening measures, and universal masking of staff to make sure we are more prepared.

She also says it’s important to make sure facilities have the proper resources in place.

“Having enough staff and having the correct skill mix, so having more infection control expertise, are two of the recommendations.”

Klassen adds we can look to other countries to learn how they managed the virus as well.
