Spiny Softshell Turtles starting to hatch

The Spiny Softshell Turtles are hatching.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says they’ve protected 175 nests this summer.

More than 2,000 baby turtles are expected to hatch from these nests and head to the Thames.

The turtle population in Ontario is declining rapidly due to habitat loss, illegal collection, and human recreational activities among other factors.

Remember if you see these animals take care to not harm them.

The UTRCA welcomes financial help with the Spiny Softshell Recovery Project at this website.
