Perth County OPP crediting with helping save a life from a serious collision in West Perth

Perth County OPP is crediting a citizen for his quick actions after he helped save a life from a serious collision in West Perth.

Police say the collision happened just after 1:30 in the afternoon on July 2nd when a fully loaded transport truck traveling northbound on Highway 23 struck a passenger vehicle that was attempting to cross the intersection at Line 20, in Russeldale.

Provincial Constable Crilly, a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police officer, happened to witness the event, along with a citizen, Jason Desjardine.

The two were quick to respond to the four occupants inside the vehicle that had been struck.

Police say Mr. Desjardine attended to the driver and found a serious injury, information which he relayed to Constable Crilly immediately.

Mr. Desjardine applied pressure to the wound until Constable Crilly was able to apply a tourniquet.

The victim was then transported by Ornge Air Ambulance, and fortunately, the injuries were later determined to be non-life-threatening.

Mr. Desjardine, a resident of Central Huron, stayed on scene and continued to assist Constable Crilly, by providing him with the support he needed to keep assessing the dynamic situation.
