Huron Perth Public Health clarifies role in large planned events

Huron Perth Public Health is clarifying its role when it comes to large planned events.  In a statement, the health unit stressed its role is not to approve or deny the holding of large organized events but to work with the organizers before and during the event to make sure that all public health procedures are followed.

HPPH Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen does say that if those health measures are not being followed public health does have the ability to step in and impose restrictions during the event, “The provincial government has set out requirements and rules for areas in Stage 3 under O.Reg 364/20 – Rules for Areas in Stage 3 under Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to Covid-19).  The role of the local public health unit is to work with the event operator, before and during the event, to ensure that proper public health measures are being followed. Public health does have the ability to intervene and impose restrictions during the event if public health measures are not being followed.”
