Wildwood Reservoir deemed unsafe for swimming after blue-green algae discovered

The Wildwood Reservoir near St.Marys has been deemed unsafe for swimming after blue-green algae was discovered.
Huron Perth Public Health and Southwestern Public Health issued a press release Tuesday afternoon stating that a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in the reservoir at the Wildwood Conservation Area.
They say blue-green algae can produce toxins which may be harmful to health through direct contact or consumption.
They are also advising people not to allow pets to swim in or drink from the water and not to eat fish caught at the reservoir.
The health units say drinking water supplies from wells in the area have not been affected by the algae bloom, as blooms are not a concern for groundwater drinking supplies.
