HPPH encouraging all residents to get their flu shots

Huron Perth Public Health is encouraging all residents six months of age and older to get their flu shot.

It comes as public health officials are warning that influenza cases, combined with COVID-19, could overwhelm the health care system.

HPPH says the flu shot is currently available mainly for priority populations, including those that are over 65 and those who are immunocompromised.

They say they believe the official launch of the shot will be the week of October 19th.

The flu shot is available at local pharmacies and doctor’s offices but the Health Unit is encouraging you to call ahead.

Officials say the influenza vaccine does not protect against other viruses, such as COVID-19.
