City of Stratford brings back affordable housing program

It could soon be easier to purchase a home in the area.

It comes as applications are being accepted by the City of Stratford for an affordable housing program which offers low-to-moderate income home buyers an interest free loan.

The loan is intended to help cover the cost of the down payment on the home and home buyers in Stratford, St.Marys and Perth County are elligible for up to five percent on a home’s purchase price.

The programs income limits are set at $88,400 if applying as a couple or family and $74,600 if applying as an individual with the maximum purchase price of a residential home eligible for the program set at $396,045.

Stratford Housing Manager Eden Grodzinski says the program is vital for the community.

“I think affordability is a challenge across the country and Stratford is no exception to that and it’s important for us to provide opportunities for people at all income levels to get into the home ownership market.”
