Woman out $25k after falling victim to online romance scam

A Huron East woman is out a lot of cash after falling victim to the Romance Scam.

The OPP says she met a man through a dating website in September of last year.

After four months of exchanging emails the scammer started asking for money.

Through a course of events the woman realized she’d been conned out of $25,000 over the year and reported the matter to police.

The OPP says these kinds of scams are gaining popularity.

If you think you’ve been the victim of a scam you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre.ca or by calling 1-888-495-8501.

You can also contact the OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
