We’re learning more details about the freight train derailment in Goderich.
Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, Huron County OPP say first responders were called to the Goderich Grain Terminal on Harbour Street after a witness reported seeing the train derail and collide with a pickup truck and outbuilding.
Police say firefighters helped get two people who were trapped in the truck get out of the vehicle unscathed.
They say the train also completely demolished an unoccupied transport truck and trailer that had just been loaded at the grain elevators
The runaway train then continued west toward the lake where approximately 10 of the cars derailed and continued on striking the pickup truck and a wooden storage shed before coming to a halt.
An estimate on the dollar value of the damages has yet to be established and the incident is under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board and Huron County OPP.
The train was operated by Stratford-based Goderich-Exeter Railway,
