Close call for snowmobile driver from Woodstock

Police say a 26-year-old Woodstock resident is lucky to be alive after a frightening incident.

Just after 3:30 Monday morning, first responders were called out after it was reported a snowmobile had broken through the ice somewhere in Blanford-Blenheim Township.

They say the driver had become separated from friends they were travelling with, when the driver crossed a pond.

The snowmobile broke through the ice, according to police, and sunk in the water, but the driver was able to rescue themselves.

After searching the area for over two hours, police say they located the driver just before 6:00 o’clock in the morning just outside of Innerkip.

The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
