Stratford Jail temporarily closed due to COVID-19 outbreak

The Stratford Jail has been temporarily closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of the Solicitor General confirmed the news to MyStratfordNow.com on Monday and says the decision was made along with Huron Perth Public Health to ensure the safety and well-being of both correctional services staff and those in custody.

He says there are currently nine COVID-positive inmate cases and approximately thirty inmates are being transferred to other facilities.

The facilities will isolate the inmates under droplet precautions from the general population but the spokesperson wouldn’t say where they were transferred due to security reasons.

The ministry is working with HPPH to complete contact tracing of inmate cases and the jail will be closed for approximately 14 days.

The first COVID-19 case was confirmed at the jail last week.
