Two people charged in connection to break-ins in southwestern Ontario

Police say two people have been charged after a series of multi-jurisdictional break and enters throughout southwestern Ontario.

Since October 2020, police say seven businesses in Seaforth, Parkhill, Forest, Lucknow, Hanover, Walkerton and Listowel have been victim of similar break, enters and thefts.

Just before 1 o’clock in the morning on February 19th, a Perth County OPP officer was investigating a report of a suspect rummaging through unlocked vehicles in North Perth, when they reported a vehicle failing to stop at a stop sign.

They say the vehicle was stopped on Main Street West in Listowel, and during the investigation, the officer noticed the vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle in the break and enters.

While officers were speaking with the people in the vehicle, it was reported that a break and enter had just happened at a business on Wallace Avenue North.

The driver and passenger, matching surveillance footage, were arrested for the break and enter and officers later confirmed that they were also responsible for the seven previous similar occurrences.

A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from Huron East, face a long list of charges.
