One person is dead after a snowmobile crash near Vanastra.

Around 8:30 Friday morning, Huron County OPP say they received a call about a family member that was late coming back from a snowmobile ride.

Officers and a group of people from the area searched for the person southeast of the community and they discovered the snowmobile wreckage and an unresponsive victim in a bush on private property just before 11 o’clock.

The snowmobiler was pronounced dead at the scene and their identity is being withheld until their family is notified.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place Saturday and the investigation into the collision continues.
