Ontario reports over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases

Ontario is reporting over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time since early February.

The province added 2,380 cases on Thursday but it says the count is higher by approximately 280 cases due to a data catch-up with their tracking system.

Seventy-one per cent of the reported cases are in the hot spots around the GTHA and Ottawa.

The death toll is now at 7,280 after another 17 people died.

The recovery rate remains at 93 per cent.

Test positivity, the percentage of tests coming back positive, is at 3.8 per cent.

Just over 60,000 tests were done and over 79,000 vaccines were given.

There are sixty-nine new cases of the B.1.17 variant with the total now at 1,458, one new B.1.351 variant case bringing that total to 51 and seven new P.1 variant cases with that total now at 54.
